Protecting ArtisticKids: Global Moderation & COPPA Compliance
— Sarah Jenkins, Head of Trust & Safety, ArtisticKids Global
Challenge
ArtisticKids struggled to scale globally while protecting users aged 6–14. AI filters failed to detect visual PII (like school logos) and multilingual “grooming” slang. This created significant safety risks, potential COPPA violations, and hindered expansion into non-English markets where cultural nuances and local dialects were ignored.
Solution
Annotation Box deployed a native-speaking, Human-in-the-Loop moderation team. We implemented “Visual PII Deep Scans” to redact sensitive background data and created age-tiered guidelines. Our multilingual experts identified coded predatory behavior and regional cyberbullying across 15+ languages, ensuring context-aware safety that automated systems could not achieve alone.
Result
The platform achieved 99.8% PII detection accuracy and 100% compliance with COPPA and GDPR-K. Moderation speed increased by 70%, with most content approved in under 120 seconds. Enhanced safety led to a 45% boost in parental trust and successful expansion into five new international markets.
